**About the Composer**

Christina Koller is a fifth grade student at Bridport Central School. She has taken Suzuki piano lessons since she was 5 years old, and began playing violin and flute in fourth grade. Christina began composing songs when she was very young on the piano, and in first or second grade she began using the school computer to transcribe her songs. She has continued using the music software at school to create more and more complicated pieces. Two of her compositions have been chosen by the Vermont MIDI Project for live performances by members of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.

This song started as an assignment to write a motif. Then I wrote a left hand. The name of my piece is "Joie de Vie", which means "Joy of Life".

Opus 3

I began this piece by composing the A section in second grade. In third grade I wrote the B section and chose an ABA form. It is my second song! The tempo setting is 100, and it is in the key of D minor. Originally it was written for piano, but then I changed the instruments so that it could be a part of the Opus 3 concert. "La Fille D'or" means "The Golden Girl" in French.

SONG OF THIRDS

   MIDI

I began this song when I was 9 years old and in 3rd grade. I worked on it again in 4th grade. I made up this song at a friend's house and then recorded it on a cassette tape when I got home. But later when I listened to it, I forgot how I had played it on the piano so I changed it a little. Then I put it on the computer. Soon it was my dad's birthday and I dedicated it to him and gave it to him as a birthday present.

SOLACE

   MIDI

I was 8 when I wrote this song for fun on my piano at home. At first I named it "Goodnight", but I wasn't happy with that title. My Mom thought it sounded like two kids playing with each other and my Dad thought it sounded like twinkling stars. I didn't like either of those ideas. Finally I settled on the name, "Solace". I chose flute and bassoon as the instruments for this piece.

SOUND THE HORNS FOR WILLIAM

  MIDI

This is my first song. I wrote it in second grade. The song is in C Major. The tempo is 110. This song is for my brother William. I wrote it while William and my dad were having a pretend battle on the playroom rug, and I wrote it telling the audience to sound the horns to cheer William on because he had not won yet. My dad was pretending to be a dragon. I was almost 7 when I wrote this.

The words are: "Sound the horns for William, William, William. Sound the horns for William, for he ha-as not yet won."
